Alex Trafton – Head Instructor
Alex Trafton is one of the most experienced Krav Maga Instructors in the U.S. He learned Krav Maga in Israel, training with the highest level instructors from the civilian and military spheres. He is certified as an expert by two Krav Maga organizations. He worked as a Krav Maga instructor for an Israel based security firm teaching Krav Maga to elite units from the IDF as well as visiting elite units from foreign militaries. Alex founded Krav Maga Tel Aviv, a sought after training destination for Krav Maga practitioners from across the globe. He has taught Krav Maga all over the world, certifying new instructors from countries such as the U.S., Israel, Australia, New Zealand, the U.K., Sweden, Poland, Russia, among others. In addition to years of high level Krav Maga experience, Alex has also fought competitively as both an amateur and professional boxer and has years of experience in Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Combat Submission Wrestling, and edged weapons combatives.
In addition to his role at KMA SD Alex works providing security and logistics for journalists, NGO’s, and corporate entities working in high threat environments. His responsibilities include on the ground deployments with media teams in hostile environments, intelligence coordination, electronic tracking, and training teams in their pre deployment phase. Alex has also worked in close protection domestically, working for some of the most high profile celebrities in the country.
Alex Grew up in Southern California and attended UC Berkeley on a baseball scholarship. He was an All Pac 10 All Academic first team selection, and was selected to the All Decade Team in the Alaska Baseball League (2000-2010). He played professionally for the Tampa Bay Rays. He was the quarterback for the Tel Aviv Sabres in the Israel Football League, and led them to an Israel Bowl Championship in the 2009-2010 season. He holds a BA in Middle Eastern Studies from UC Berkeley and is completing his MA in Counter Terrorism from the IDC Herzliya in Israel. He speaks Hebrew and Arabic and has authored a number of publications in the fields of Security and Counter Terrorism.

Anna Kasmir – Krav Maga Assistant Instructor
Anna is an experienced martial artist with 8 years boxing experience. She is certified as a Krav Maga Assistant Instructor, is a Jiu Jitsu blue belt, and is enrolled in Erik Paulson’s Coach Development Program for Combat Submission Wrestling. She is a true martial artist cross training in many disciplines, including STX Kickboxing, and Libre Fighting. She has had lots of success competing on the local grappling circuit and plans to continue her competitive career. If you attend any Combat Submission Wrestling, BJJ, Boxing, Kickboxing, Krav Maga, or Combat Fitness classes you will see Anna both assisting and teaching classes. Anna grew up in San Diego and is currently completing her Psychology degree at SDSU. She plans to attend graduate school locally where she can continue to train and develop as a martial artist, fighter, and instructor at KMA SD.
Matt Klier – Combat Shooting Instructor
Matt is a 12.5 year Navy Veteran serving several combat tours in direct support to SEAL Teams as a combat engineer. He is a law enforcement officer working on a fugitive apprehension team under the US Marshals. He is a certified instructor in ground mobility, small boat-VBSS, and small arms marksmanship. He is a highly ranked competition shooter and is the owner and head instructor of Active Shooter Defense School which specializes in combat shooting instruction for civilians, military, and law enforcement.
Steve Gable – Head Jiu Jitsu Instructor
Professor Steve Gable, is a 2nd degree Gracie Barra Jiu-Jitsu black belt, 2014 World and National Masters Nogi Black belt champion. Steve is also a former professional mixed martial artist with an 8-2 record, who began training Jiu-Jitsu over 17 years ago under 6th degree Gracie Barra black belt Nelson Monterio. Steve is now passionate about coaching aspiring martial artists here in San Diego and around the world.
Guy Poran – Tactical Advisor
Guy is a former IDF platoon commander for a special forces detachment of the Paratrooper Brigade. He is qualified as a sniper and a Krav Maga instructor. He is the former head of the Dignitary Protection Section for the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency). Before that he worked as an undercover Air Marshal for the Israeli government. He is the owner of GP Security and currently works training security forces around the globe. He joins Krav Maga San Diego as one of our tactical instructors teaching shooting, Krav Maga, and VIP Protection.
