Head instructor Alex Trafton has one of the most extensive martial arts backgrounds of any instructor in the self-defense field. He is one of the most experienced Krav Maga instructors in the United States one of the very few trained and certified in Israel.

Krav Maga:

Alex Trafton is a Krav Maga expert/black belt, certified by 2 Krav Maga organizations. He learned Krav Maga in Israel where he trained with master instructors such as Eyal Yanilov, Avi Moyal, Zeev Cohen, Ran Nakash (former head of Krav Maga for the IDF), Danny Netzer (current head of Krav Maga in the IDF). Alex worked in a security consulting firm in Israel as a Krav Maga instructor. In this role he delivered Krav Maga instruction to Israeli special forces units alongside American and British Special Forces units during small unit exchanges in Israel. He founded Krav Maga Tel Aviv, which remains a sought-after training destination. Alex trained and carried out his professional role while studying for his MA degree in Counter Terrorism at the IDC, Herzliya. He has started and/or run major Krav Maga gyms on three continents and has taught numerous seminars and instructor courses certifying instructors from over a dozen countries.

Alex fought in both Israel and Australia training first under Ran Nakash, #10 WBO ranked Cruiserweight contender, and later under Michael Katsidis, 2x WBO world champion. He fought at both heavyweight and cruiserweight against opponents from around the world. In addition to his competitive fights he was a sought after sparring partner for both Cruiserweight and Heavyweight contenders. Additionally, Alex Trained many boxers who have fought all over the world at various amateur competitions.

Muay Thai:

Alex trained Muay Thai in Israel under several Israeli Champions including Ran Nakash and Danny Netzer. In Australia he trained at 8 Limbs Muay Thai under Australian Muay Thai Champion Alex Vidoni. Alex trained in Thailand at the famous Sitsongpeenong Muay Thai gym in Phuket, Thailand. He trained under several Lumpinee, Thai, and world champion Muay Thai Fighters.

Alex is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu no-gi brown belt under IBJJF Masters Black Belt World Champion Steve Gable. He is a Combat Submission Wrestling coach under MMA and Grappling legend Erik Paulson (where he received his blue belt under Erik Paulson and Rigan Machado in traditional Brazilian Jiu Jitsu). He is a Gracie Jiu Jitsu Law Enforcement Instructor, certified by Royler Gracie. Alex is a yellow belt in Judo under USA Judo head coach Justin Flores, together they have been working on the development of a no-gi fusion of Judo and Wrestling.

Alex is an NRA certified Range Safety Officer, a combat shooting instructor, and Libre Fighting instructor (edged weapons combatives). He is a TCCC Combat Life Saver with a certificate in advanced field care. He is a former law enforcement officer where he worked on a high-risk fugitive apprehension task force. He worked for several years as a bodyguard for “A” list celebrities. He currently works in close protection specializing in hostile environments. In this capacity he has worked with journalists, NGO’s, and corporate clients in some of the most dangerous conflict zones on earth. Alex has published several articles in the Israeli press on terrorism, religion, politics, and armed conflict. He has a production credit on the 2017 documentary “Erdogan: Dictator’s Republic”.

Alex grew up in Southern California and was a High School varsity letterman in Football, Soccer, and Baseball, winning one state title in Soccer. He Attended UC Berkeley on a baseball scholarship where he was named to the All Pac 10 All Academic Team. He graduated with a BA in Middle Eastern Studies. Alex speaks Arabic, Hebrew, and Turkish. He was an Alaska Baseball League All Star in 2005 and was named to the All Decade Team for the Mat Su Miners (2000-2010). After college he signed with the Tampa Bay Rays and was a pitcher in their minor league system. In addition to Krav Maga in Israel, Alex was the quarterback for the Tel Aviv Sabres of the Israel Football League, and led them to an Israel Bowl championship in 2010.
